Every change in contemporary art is inseparable from the rapid development of scie nce and technology.Science and technology not only promote the development of conte mporary video art,but also play a vital role in changing the way people think.The comm unication of art to the audience is no longer a one-way communication,and the space is n o longer just a place where art is placed for people to watch.Space establishes a connecti on between the audience and the artwork.With the rapid development of globalization,the meaning of space has not only meant physical space in the sense of material environment.Before the sale of portable all-in-ones,it appeared that Nam June Paik and others used television to make video installations.This art form makes the meaning of space even more important.It enables us to focus on the “inside of video” in video art,and extend it to the non-materialized artist 's consciousness space and materialized outer space(exhibition space)in video installations.The audience 's participation and experience have become important in the work.component.Therefore,the purpose of this article is to sort out the development process of video installations,focusing on the case studies of artists to analyze the spatiality of single-freq uency video in video art and the spatiality of video installations(exhibition space),Summarize the differences between the two and their respective characteristics.Finally,it summarizes the latest development direction of video installation and looks forward to t he future development of video art.
