Light and shade is one of the most important problems in formative arts,but in the study of traditional art history,light and shade are far less concerned than space and linear perspective.Leonardo da Vinci,as the representative and integrator of Renaissance art,his research and theoretical achievements on light and shade are the most remarkable links in the issue of light and shade in painting in art history,and it also created the most brilliant achievements in art.Leonardo da Vinci's observation and research on painting is not born out of nowhere,but based on the tradition,including culture,art,science and the direct theoretical source.In this study,the extension and connotation of light and shade theory in painting are summarized as painting view of light and shade,research basis and method of light and shade in painting,light,shade and color theory,aerial perspective and sfumato,light and shade processing theory of painting,and the scientificity and contradiction of light and shade theory.The mirror view and the concept that painting is a scientific art of Leonardo da Vinci are also reflected in his view of light and shade in painting.
