In recent years, with the rapid development of China's economy, people's material and cultural needs increase steadily. At the same time, improving the scientific literacy of all citizens has become a major task of the state. In this context,it is important to introduce excellent foreign popular science works to Chinese readers through translation, which will not only broaden people's horizon and increase their knowledge, but also promote the development of translation cause.Leonardo da Vinci:Anatomist is a typical popular science book.In this book, the authors Martin Clayton and Ron Philo introduced 87 anatomical research notes made by Leonardo during his lifetime, including scientific and artistic history interpretations and discussions. This book provides the most basic reference with illustrations to the readers interested in Leonardo,so that they can observe and think from Leonardo's perspective and start the exploration of human anatomy. The source text of this report is selected from the last four parts of the second chapter of the book.Popular science works belong to the scientific and technical style,in which a lot of technical terms would be mentioned and the sentence structure is rather complex. In order to make the target text qualified, translators must take efforts to achieve the lexical, syntactic and discourse equivalence between the source text and the target text. The main purpose of the translator is to accurately reproduce the original features in the translation and to ensure that the source-text readers and the target-text readers have the same reading experience. It is also the translation purpose emphasized by Nida in his functional equivalence theory, which is taken as the theoretical basis to guide this translation practice. This report consists of the following parts. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the background and significance of this translation report. The second chapter introduces the content, authors and textual features of the source text. The third chapter introduces functional equivalence theory and its application to translation of popular science texts. The fourth chapter analyzes the specific cases under the guidance of functional equivalence theory from the perspectives of words, sentences and discourse. The fifth chapter is the conclusion part,in which the translator summarized the research findings, shortcomings of this translation project and shared her experience with the purpose of promoting future translation practices.
