Xuanhua district was mainly occupied with Han Ethnicity people and most of its tombs are those of Han people.Due to its conditions of geologically and historically,this area has reserved most cultural elements of the central plain of China.Plenty of wood-like architectures,that were generally in North-Song were found in the tombs,with decoration of colors.With systematic analysis on colored paintings in Xuanhua tomb of Liao Dynasty will provide new materials for research on murals of Xuanhua tombs of Liao Dynasty and meanwhile,the research will provide new views to Liao Dynasty architecture and cemeteries system of Han ethnic people in this area.This article systematically summarizes the current color paintings in Xuanhua tombs of Liao Dynasty.First,it investigates architecture parts and their methods of representation.The author refers that brick carvings and paintings were used as various architectural components in Xuanhua Liao Tomb.Second,by collecting textures of ornaments on every singlecomponents,the author concludes that the major of the carves are pictures,commonly Flowing moire,Baoxianghua,Fangsheng pattern,etc..In the end,combining presentations of the images and their textures,as well as comparison with color paintings in wood structures in surrounding areas and north Song dynasty,the author analyses characters of colored architecture paintings of Xuanhua tombs in Liao Dynasty.The conclusion is that colored architecture paintings of Xuanhua tombs in Liao Dynasty are of relatively large difference from those in surrounding areas.The tombs in surrounding areas are of less ornaments and the textures are mainly Dan powder while those in Xuanhua employs brick carves,shadowing and various other architecture components.The images are diverse and their forms are multicolored decorations,in line with colored paintings in Song Dynasty tombs in North China.
