The report discusses the legal text-the Amended Land Law in Laos,adopted by Resolution 48 and promulgated by Presidential Decree No.4 of October 21,2003 and by the Parliament of the Lao People's Democratic Republic on October 21,2003.Finding a suitable translation method based on the characteristics of the legal text is what this report needs to analyze and explore.The report consists of four chapters.The first chapter presents a brief description of the translation task,introducing the translation background,purpose and significance.The second chapter introduces the translation process of the text,including the preparation of the translation: the collection of relevant legal materials and the construction of the English-Chinese two-way parallel legal corpus;the translation process: to translate based on the full understanding of the ST,the Chinese land laws and the parallel Corpus;post-translation modification: with the help of the group discussion,the guidance of instructor and relevant legal professional,the translator revises and proofreads the target text.The third chapter is the focus of this report,which mainly discusses the formal characteristics reflected in its lexical,grammatical and syntactical features for finding the best and equivalent translation version.At the lexical level,the formal characteristics of legal terms,foreign words and Old English are discussed and analyzed.Then,the translator is to translate without losing its formal characteristics by looking up the professional legal dictionaries and official legal websites.At the grammatical level,the characteristics of passive voice and pronouns are discussed.The translations that conform to Chinese language habits are given in the case of ensuring information equivalence according to the differences between Chinese and English.At the syntactical level,the juxtaposed and nominal structure in the source text are analyzed and transformed,and the long sentences are split,reorganized and merged.According to Chinese language habits,the word order is adjusted and a plurality of Chinese short sentences is formed to solve the translation problems at sentence level.The fourth chapter of this report is a conclusion,mainly introducing some of the findings and limitations of this report.
