Documentaries often take characters as objects of expression.In this part of the documentaries,there are many films showing specific groups of characters.In such works,the lens is not only aimed at one or several characters,but also at the group formed by many individuals.The group in the films is often represented by the power beyond individual characters.The group spirit displayed by the group makes the audience moved,and at the same time triggers the audience s reflection on the representative meaning of the group image.Compared with the general character documentaries,the documentaries with group images are more difficult.In the process of creation,how to organize and arrange so many characters can be coordinated and orderly,from what angle of view can we fully display the overall landscape,how to connect and combine to create the image of the group in a limited time,these are the problems that need to be considered and solved when the director conceives.Only by using appropriate artistic techniques can the numerous individuals be condensed into a whole.Finally,the effect of portraying people is achieved.This paper takes the creative process of graduation work "Sea&Nezha " as an example,starting from the creative thinking,narrative perspective,narrative structure,subtitles and the use of details,etc to show the collective image of Beijing Longzaitian shadow play troupe,and to explore the artistic skills of portraying the "figure group" in the documentary.
