The artistic expression of minority images mainly refers to the art processing of generalized images of the ethnic minorities in the minority Chinese Paintings. This paper aims to explore ethnic minority images in Chinese art history and modern and contemporary style of the artist’s works and manifestations.China is a multi-ethnic country. In the long history of thousands of years, there are many paintings reflecting the ethnic images which are not only of cultural and historical value, but also exert important influence on modern Chinese figure paintings with far-reaching significance. In this way, two points should be noticed when the artistic features of the ethnic minority images are researched: e is the ethnic minority cultures such as apparel, accessories, natural beauty, and national architecture; and the other is the creation form of Chinese paintings and their inner spirit.This article is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a review of the history of Chinese paintings with minority themes. First of all, it discusses the concept and characteristics of Chinese paintings with minority themes, and then analyzes some Chinese paintings and painter who took some major minorities as themes such as Tibetan people, Xianbei people, Khitan tribe, and so on. Finally, it illustrates the overall style of the ancient ethnic paintings. The second chapter is to study minority characters portrayed in contemporary painting and its aesthetic orientation, and also analyzes the geographical features and different national image characteristics in Chinese paintings. Followed from the realistic art of language, exaggeration and distortion of art practices, the point of view of the decorative technique of expression of works and artists are analyzed and summarized. Section III seeks common aesthetic orientation and a unique personality and style of performance. Section IV explores and experiences the images of "meaning" and "fun". The third chapter summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of the performance of the minority images in contemporary Chinese paintings. Chapter IV summarizes some insights on minority images in painting based on the practice experience of the author in Chinese painting creation and also gives artistic vision and thinking on the prospect of Chinese paintings.In short, the artistic expression of the national images is a comprehensive culture which contains historical, social, and humanistic factors. For a painter it is a challenge, requiring the artist to not only master the painting techniques, but also have a wealth of cultural literacy, and grasp the scale of integration to maintain the spirit of Chinese culture. That is to say only through living in ethnic areas, exploring its ethnic cultures, and feeling its beauty in flesh can the ethnic people images be vividly expressed in the form of Chinese paintings.
