According to the new version of The English curriculum standard for senior high school(2017),English reading teaching in senior high school should put emphasis on training students' reading skills of predicting,skimming,scanning and inferring the meanings of words.Critical reading is not the process of readers receiving the information passively,but the process of readers communicating with the author of text on the basis of understanding the deep-meaning of text.Critical reading plays a positive role in promoting English reading teaching.Based on this,the study attempts to apply the critical reading teaching model to senior high school English reading teaching,and promote students' English reading scores by cultivating their critical thinking.Based on the constructivism learning theory and critical discourse analysis theory,this thesis attempts to apply the critical reading teaching model in senior high school,aiming to address the following issues: 1)How does the application of critical reading teaching model affect students' English reading scores? 2)How does the application of critical reading teaching model affect students' use of critical reading strategies? 3)What role does the application of critical reading teaching model play in cultivating students' critical thinking?The experiment lasted for one semester.Taking two parallel classes of senior two in Dalian 103 middle school as the research subjects,with the research methods of test method,questionnaire survey method as well as teaching experiment method,this paper discusses the effectiveness of the application of critical reading teaching model in senior high school English teaching using quantitative and qualitative analysis.During the experiment,SPSS21.0 software is used to analyze the collected data.The results clearly show that: 1)The application of critical reading teaching model can improve students' English reading scores.2)The application of critical reading teaching model can improve students' use of critical reading strategies such as analysis strategy and prediction strategy.3)The application of the teaching model of critical reading is helpful to cultivate students' critical thinking.Based on the above research results,this study puts forward some suggestions for teaching in the aspects of teachers' selection of reading materials,cultivation of students' thinking ability as well as students' extracurricular reading and expects to arouse teachers' attention to the critical reading teaching model,guide students to use appropriate reading strategies as well as make contributions to improve senior high school students' English reading level.
