As one of the four basic skills(listening,speaking,reading and writing),reading is of great importance,so it's urgent to improve the teaching efficiency of reading classes in senior high school.However,English teachers still adopt traditional teaching method which has a negative effect in students' English reading ability,reading skills and reading interest to teach reading classes.In order to improve students' reading abilities and get rid of the disadvantage of traditional teaching method,quite a few researchers have put forward some new English reading teaching models.Among them,the Understanding,Sharing and Expressing Teaching Model(USE Teaching Model)which is on the bases of Constructivism,Input Hypothesis and Theory of Meaningful Reception Learning is attached great attention to.Many teachers and researchers have designed English reading classes based on USE Teaching Model in their dissertations,but few teachers apply USE Teaching Model to actual English reading classes.Therefore,this study aims to study the effect of USE Teaching Model in reading classes in senior high school.The study will explore following three questions:(1)Will USE Teaching Model improve students' reading ability?(2)Will USE Teaching Model improve students' frequencies in using critical reading skills?(3)Will USE Teaching Model affect students' interest in reading?In order to solve these three problems,the author selected Class Seven,Grade One of a senior high school in Fuzhou as the experimental class and Class Eight,Grade One as the controlled class for the experiment.The experiment lasted three months.In the process of the experiment,students in Class 7 took reading classes with USE Teaching Model,while students in Class 8 took reading classes with traditional teaching method.In the preparing phase,subjects were given the same pre-test of reading comprehension and questionnaire to test their current English reading levels,frequencies in using critical reading skills and reading interest.After the experiment,students took the same post-test of reading comprehension to see whether there was any difference in reading ability between the experimental class and the controlled class.In addition,students in the experimental class did the same questionnaire to find out the changes in their frequencies in using critical reading skills and reading interest.Furthermore,the author would choosefive students in the experimental class randomly for an interview and collected information about their attitudes towards reading classes with USE Teaching Model.At the end of the experiment,the author would use SPSS 13.0.software to analyze the experimental data.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)USE Teaching Model can improve students' reading ability because there is a significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test of students' reading ability.(2)USE Teaching Model can improve students' frequencies in using critical reading skills,because USE Teaching Model can train students' critical reading skills.(3)USE Teaching Model can improve students' reading interest because USE Teaching Model is fixed with students' own experience and reading classes are students-oriented.
