In recent years, the academic circles have probably reached the following consensus on literary education;literary history becomes historical overly, studying literature as historical knowledge;literary theory tries to replace the skill analysis of literature with the discussion of theoretical knowledge;literary criticism tends more and more professional, and critics try to break existing value and create new value. However, the reflection of scholars is focused on the deviation of educational content, and did not discuss moral education and the value of literary works.C.S.Lewis,known as the “Greatest Oxforder”,noticed the separation of students from the world and works in literary education, and then he raised the quarrel of the ancient and modern literary education.Referencing the ancient education,Lewis attached importance to moral education firstly, and avoided the harm of subjectivism of value;secondly,re-examined the modern relationship between the world and humanity, avoided making meaningless judgment on literature, and then proposed that we should be related to literature.Lewis proposed the distinguishing the-first-thing-and-the-second-thing on this basis, and he held the view that literature education should focus on literature.Literature have two values of “Logos” and “Poiema”.The former leads readers out of self-barriers and get rid of the imprisonment of knowledge education;the latter leads the reader to experience order, resonating with the author, resonatingwith the author. Finally,Lewis emphasized that the correct attitude towards literary works is to return to reading itself. He believed that in the practice of reading,we should avoide the influence of subjective prejudices and fashion of the times on reading.Only by excluding the existing experience and subjective emotions, and obeying the work itself, can we understand the original intention of the work, establish the relationship between ourselves and the work, and enjoy reading.According to Lewis' education concept,to resolve the crisis of literary education,we must first examine the present from an ancient perspective, pay attention to the role of moral education and develop an independent personality;second,we must treat literary texts with a correct attitude, reshape the connection between readers and works, and avoid education falling into the quagmire of various doctrines.
