Role-play,as a classroom activity,requires students to play different roles in certain language scenarios,imitating real-world language communication activities and solving some real-world problems.This can improve students' understanding of English learning in different social situations,and help them to practice and use the language frequently and accurately by stimulating their affection.Under the guidance of Cooperative Learning Theory and Constructivism Learning Theory,the author of this study focuses on the action research of role-play in junior high school English teaching,mainly to solve the following problems: First,in role-play activities,when the teacher inputs background knowledge,will students' participation be increased? Second,in the role-play activities,how can teachers optimize group activities to perfect the learning effects? Third,in the role-play activities,what role does peer assessment play?The study was conducted among 54 students in a class in the Grade Eight of a junior high school.Through a four-month and two-round exploration and perfection,the author found that in the role-play activities,teachers can facilitate students' knowledge accumulation,stimulate students' interests and enhance their participation in English learning by introducing background knowledge in advance.What's more,the flexible adjustment of team work can improve the learning effects to some extent.Finally,peer assessment in group work can effectively motivate students and improve learning efficiency.In the course of the action research,the author encountered some problems left unsolved.First,how can teachers allocate role-play time within a limited time in the class and give each group a fair performance opportunity as much as possible? Second,during the role-play activities,how can we combine teachers' evaluation and peer assessment effectively? These problems are expected to be solved in future studies based on the author's reflection.This study is expected to contribute to junior high teachers' teaching techniques by means of role-play.
