The new curriculum standard points out that English reading should focus on cultivating students’ reading ability,developing students’ core literacy.However,there are still many problems in junior high school English reading teaching,such as old-fashioned ways,excessive attention to vocabulary,grammar or reading results in reading teaching.Those problems lead to students’ lack of interest in English reading,which leads to students’ difficulty in improving their reading ability.In recent years,the question chain teaching mode has attracted academic attention and has been gradually applied in middle school English teaching.The question chain teaching mode refers to a teaching method in which teachers combine problems and situations according to teaching objectives and teaching contents and present them to students at a certain level.This study applies the question chain teaching mode to junior high school English reading teaching in order to stimulate students’ learning motivation and improve their reading ability.This study takes 40 students from Class 3,Grade 2 of a middle school in Fushun city as the research object.Classroom observation,questionnaire survey,interview and test are used as the research instruments and methods.In order to improve English reading teaching,this thesis studies the question chain teaching mode.The following three questions are mainly studied:1.How to effectively apply the question chain teaching mode in junior High School English reading teaching?2.What is the impact of the question chain teaching mode on students’ learning motivation?3.What is the impact of the question chain teaching mode on students’ reading scores?The research lasted for three months,and the first round of action lasted for two months.Firstly,questionnaires were used to investigate the status quo of students’ English reading classes,and an action research plan was designed based on the actual situation of students to apply the question chain teaching mode to English reading classes.The second round of action research lasted for one month.Based on the reflection of the first round of teaching,the action research plan was adjusted and the improved plan was applied to practical teaching.The author uses SPSS software for statistical analysis of the data collected by the two rounds of action Research institute to discuss the impact of the question chain teaching mode on students’ learning motivation and reading performance.The question chain teaching mode is implemented according to the following three steps to ensure the effectiveness of its application: First and foremost,the question chain teaching mode is applied to junior High school English reading teaching to help students clarify the ideas of articles;Secondly,the concept map is used to help students understand the details of the text and interpret the text better;Finally,with the help and inspiration of question chain and concept map,students can understand the text and have a clear understanding of the structure of the text in their mind.The question chain teaching mode is beneficial to improve students’ learning motivation,most students’ learning attitude becomes more active,and class participation is greatly improved.After the action,students’ reading scores have been improved,and the application of question chain in teaching can help students improve their English reading ability.Through action research,the author believes that the following four aspects should be of great concern in junior English reading teaching :(1)changing the role of teachers;(2)Reasonable difficulty setting;(3)Effectively control the teaching process;(4)Highlight the reading teaching to be students-oriented. |
