A Study On The Gaos Family Of Pujiang In Southern Song Dynasty

Pujiang Gaos family is a relatively typical middle-level scholar official family rising in the early Southern Song Dynasty and flourishing in the Middle Southern Song Dynasty.Some of its members have made outstanding achievements in the political and cultural fields.The rise and fall of the Gaos family lasted throughout the Southern Song Dynasty and the early Yuan Dynasty.At the end of the Northern Song Dynasty,some famous members of the family had studied in Kaifeng,the capital city;in the Southern Song Dynasty,to the sixth generation of members,the family developed to its peak,and then gradually declined.In the process of development,the Gaos family has become a compound family of imperial examination,bureaucracy and academic.The first chapter discusses the origin and lineage of the Gaos family,clarifies the basic information of each family member in the existing historical materials,introduces the political and literary achievements of the representative members,compiles the detailed lineage chart according to the time sequence,and reveals the specific performance of the initial rise,prosperity and decline of the Gaos family.The second chapter discusses the marriage and social relations of the Gaos family.Through the analysis of the family and the Weis family,the author reveals the phenomenon of intermarriage in the marriage relationship of the Gaos family members,such as intermarriage in the same county,wife without concubine,family to family,relatives of Gaos and Weis.In addition,it also investigates the contacts between Gao Zai,the sixth generation of Gaos family members,and Wei liaoweng,Gao Jia and his son,and Li Xinchuan,as well as Gao Side contacts with Mou Zicai and Xu Lin,and probes into the time,reasons,poetry interaction and types of contacts.In addition,it also discusses the promotion and reuse of Gao's male members by some scholar officials under the "recommendation" system.The third chapter discusses the political activities of the sixth generation members of Gao Jia,Gao stator and the seventh generation members of Gao Side.It investigates their political achievements,analyzes the causes of their political behaviors andpsychological activities,and evaluates their political achievements and personality characteristics.The fourth chapter discusses the reasons and characteristics of the rise and fall of the Gaos family.The prosperity of the Gaos family can be attributed to five factors:economic surplus,Confucian family style,efforts of ethnic groups,networking,longevity of male members,etc.while the decline of the Gaos family can be attributed to three factors: the ups and downs of the official career of the members,the unintentional advancement of the members,and the fall of the Southern Song Dynasty.The Yus family who moved to Chongren of Jiangxi Province after Renshou of Sichuan Province and the Yuans family who lived in Mingzhou were compared to discuss the influence of the differences in geographical,marriage and academic factors on the development of the family,and the factors that led to the characteristics of the family.The conclusion part introduces the work of this paper,and points out the shortcomings of this paper,as well as the direction of future efforts.
