Toni Morrison is a well-known black female writer in the United States and the first black female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in the 20 th century. All of her works are permeated with thoughts about the survival situation of black race and attention to the fate of black women under double oppression. Her creation is a continuous evolution of her unique black feminism, which shows the hardship of black women's self-identity.At the same time, she put the real liberation of black women on her own focus and explored the way out for black women under national oppression.Through literature research,it is found that the domestic current situation mainly focuses on the research of Morrison's single work. Therefore,on the basis of previous studies of Morrison's works, this thesis selects Morrison's three works and studies the development of Morrison's black feminism by comparing the performances of different black women in the process of pursuing self-identity.Moreover,it will be more helpful to research on Morrison's thoughts and works. This thesis selects Morrison's three works from the 1970 s to the 1990 s,which are The bluest eye,Song of Solomon and Jazz. This thesis analyzes development of black feminism of Morrison by analyzing the images of black women in her three works. As a black female writer,Morrison was concerned about the oppression faced by black women in American society. She conveyed her black feminism thoughts by writing, and the female images in her works have also changed greatly. Her identity gradually changes from ethnic cultural identity to black female self-identity.By describing the victims of historical environment and racial discrimination such as Pecola,Pauline and black prostitutes who were abandoned by black community,Morrison advocated getting rid of white culture's suppression of individuality by white culture to carry out self-identification.In the second novel, from the women of the Deads,Morrison showed us women's self-closure and the emergence of their self-consciousness under the oppression of patriarchy;next,Pilate is a female character who pursued independence, dared to face herself, took pride in her own culture and took responsibility for inheriting her own culture, which shows us that black women should be rooted in the national culture for self-identification;finally,Morrison described Violet who realized that black women should unite to build black community, achieve mutual achievement and pursue love according to their own experiences.Morrison gradually realized that if black women want to get rid of the current situation of oppression and discrimination and cruel reality, they need to conduct self-identity.Black women should be based on their own nation and themselves, gradually transform from ethnic identity to real black female identity through unity and cooperation of black community with independent values and subjectivity. In addition, black women and black menshould strengthen communication and adopt a tolerant and caring attitude to build a harmonious black community. The female characters shaped by Morrison shows her distinct feminine consciousness and a stand for women. She not only showed the dilemma of black women's self-identity,but also explored the way for black women to achieve equality and self-worth.
