Reading is one of the four major skills that English learners must master.In addition to reflecting students' comprehensive ability of using the language,English reading also accounts for a large proportion of English reading tests in the senior high school entrance examination.With the rapid development of social culture,technology and people's cognitive level,teachers hope to enhance the effect of English reading teaching by exercising the students' critical thinking and broadening the application channels of students' English abilities.Therefore,the author conducts the reading teaching empirical study based on Multiliteracies Cultivation which is based on the Multimodal Discourse Analysis Theory and Social Semiotic Theory.It is hoped that the application of the teaching method will improve students' English reading motivation,English reading habits and English reading scores.The research questions are:Question 1: To what extent does the English reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation influence English reading motivation of junior high school students?Question 2: To what extent does the English reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation affect the English reading habits of junior high school students?Question 3: To what extent does the English reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation impact the students' English reading scores in junior high school?The experimental research was conducted from September to December in 2019 in the second grade of No.4 Junior High School in Jinzhou,Liaoning Province.The author studied 82 subjects from two parallel classes at the school.The experimental class(EC)was Class 1 with 41 students and the control class(CC)was Class 3 with 41 students.English reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation was applied in the experimental class and the traditional teaching method was applied in the control class.English reading lessons were conducted by the same teacher and were applied both in the experimental class and the control class according to the usual teaching schedule.The reading class ran through the whole teaching process.Students had one English lesson a day from Monday to Friday,andeach unit took about seven or eight lessons to complete.And students of the two classes used the same reading materials,English textbook published by people's education press(Go for it).In order to ensure the authenticity and effectiveness of the experiment,the author used questionnaire,test and interview as the experiment instruments.Results of the research showed that the use of English reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation enhanced students' learning motivation,English reading habits and the scores of experimental class improved meanwhile.Therefore,it is feasible and beneficial to apply the reading teaching based on Multiliteracies Cultivation in junior high school.Because of the limitations of personal ability and objective conditions,some problems remain to be further investigated.
