The main place of students' English learning in Senior Middle School is in the English classroom.How to make full use of the limited time in the classroom and improve students' learning efficiency has always been one of the important tasks of English teaching.Listening,speaking,reading and writing are the main skills for students to master in English classrooms.Reading is the key and difficult part in English teaching in Senior Middle School.Reading comprehension is an important part of English classes.However,the traditional reading teaching focuses more on the explanation of vocabulary and grammar,and adopts the method of reading texts directly,which makes students' reading ability unable to meet the new English curriculum standards on reading and ignores the improvement and cultivation of their reading ability.Therefore,it is essential to carry out the suitable lead-in of reading texts in Senior Middle School English reading teaching in order to inspire students' interest in reading.As an important part of Senior Middle School English classroom,scientific and reasonable lead-in can help students improve their interest in reading and create a strong learning atmosphere.On the contrary,inefficient reading will reduce the quality of the class and make students lose interest in English learning.In this paper,the author attempts to solve three main problems: 1)How is lead-in implemented in English reading class? 2)How does the implementation of lead-in affect students' English reading grades? 3)What effects will applying the lead-in in reading class bring? In order to answer the three main questions,the author conducts teaching experiments in Class 6(the control class,henceforth CC)and Class 7(the experimental class,henceforth EC)of Grade 1 of a Senior Middle School in the author's province from September to December 2018,and carries out questionnaires.The experimental results show that lead-in in reading class is more conducive to improving students' reading ability and performance.Based on the questionnaires of teachers and students,this paper explores the implementation of lead-in in English reading class.Software SPSS is used to analyze the data.The results show that through the comparative analysis of the control class and the experimental class,effective lead-in in reading classes can enhance students' performance and improve students' ability in reading.Through the pre-test and post-test analyses of text reading comprehension on similar topics,the author finds out that students' English reading performance in the experimental class has been significantly improved.The results show that the effective lead-in in English reading class of senior high school can fully mobilize students' reading enthusiasm and improve their reading performance.
