Lead-in is the teaching activity that the teacher and the students carry out at the beginning of the class in three to five minutes.Although as the fist part of a lesson,it takes only a short period in the whole class,its importance cannot be ignored.Because the length of reading text in senior high school is long and the vocabulary is large,and text genre has wide topics and various forms.Reading has become a difficult point for students to learn.A well-designed lead-in affects the actualization of teaching objectives and it also has a great impact on students' reading ability.Therefore,this thesis takes reading as a start point to explore the effect of lead-in in senior high school English reading teaching.The author used a quantitative and qualitative research in order to explore the effect of the application of lead-in in English reading teaching.This study contains three research questions in total.First,what is the status quo of the use of lead-in in English reading teaching? Second,what effects does the application of lead-in have on student's reading ability? Third,what are the existing problems on the application of lead-in in English reading teaching? The research participants of this study are chosen from Longquan No.2 Senior High School,and they are 110 students and 5English teachers respectively.Classroom observation,questionnaire as well asinterview will be adopted in this study so as to find out the current situation and the effect of using lead-in in English reading class in senior high school.Based on data collection and data analysis,the author found that lead-in is widely employed in English reading class in senior high school.In addition,the author also discovered that lead-in can inspire students' reading interest and reduce their reading anxiety,and it also plays an auxiliary role in improving students' reading ability.At last,the author would like to provide some suggestions on lead-in according to existing problems,which will be helpful for future teaching.
