The traditional teaching method still dominates most of the English classroom in China.The English teachers put more effort on improving students' academic performance such as requiring them to memorize the vocabulary,grammars and sentences automatically,and offering countless test papers for them.The situation like this may cause students easily get tired of this exam-oriented education.The New English Curriculum Standard points out that English teaching should face all the students,as well as take notice of the disparities among students and adopt different teaching methods in line with the individual difference among them.It means English class should always be student-oriented.The application of Mind Mapping in English teaching is an effective approach that can achieve student-oriented teaching design which teachers play a guidance in the process of English teaching.The English teachers can effectively arouse students' interests in learning English independently.Mind Mapping is known as Swiss Army Knife.In the field of education,as the cognitive function of Mind Mapping is almost the same as the human's brain.It is helpful in the aspect of storage and classification of information,teachers aboard are willingly to adopt this kind of learning method in teaching.The author of this thesis choose the students from Class one and Class two in Grade Six as the research subjects.The total number of students in Class One is 33 and The total number of students in Class Two is 32.The author of this thesis mainly adopted four methods:interviews,questionnaires Pre-test & Post-test and an experimental study.The theoretical basis of this thesis are the multiple intelligence theory,humanism,brain science theory,knowledge visualization theory and the English teaching practice.And this research was conducted from the basic tasks of the English Revision Course to design the teaching activities.The main research questions are:(1)Explore the effectiveness and feasibility in applying Mind Mapping to English revision classes in Grade Six.(2)Explore the role of Mind Mapping in improving students' active learning and collaborative learning ability.The findings of this research proves that Mind Mapping plays an important role in promoting learners learning interests.With the help of Mind mapping,students can not only think positively and explore knowledge actively,but also revise the knowledge independently as well.On the other hand,Mind Mapping help students form an awareness of cooperative learning in groups.The author is delighted to find out that at the end of the experiment,the students of the experimental class have grasped more scientific methods in their study and they feel more confident in learning English.
