The Application Of Baicizhan To High School Students’ English Vocabulary Learning

With the rapid development of modern information technology and the continuous improvement of people’s living standards,smart phones have gradually become an indispensable part of people’s lives.At the same time,with the continuous innovation of research staff,the development and application of learning software are favored by majority of smart phone users.In recent years,an increasing number of researchers have begun to do research on learning software.Baicizhan,a type of learning software,has the largest number of downloads.Combining pictures,paraphrases,audios and short videos together,Baicizhan contains various vocabulary learning strategies,which are beneficial to students to learn the words well and appreciate the vocabulary learning strategies more receptively.Applying Baicizhan to the English vocabulary learning could be a worthwhile way to do high school students a favor to learn some English vocabulary strategies.Hence this thesis does research on the effectiveness of Baicizhan on senior high school students which is based on computer-assisted language learning,language learning strategies and classification of vocabulary learning strategies.This experiment proceeds in one of senior high schools in Fuzhou and research subjects are two classes of Senior Two,whose English teacher is the same one and English level is similar.In this experiment,one class is the experimental group,which uses Baicizhan to learn words,and the other is the controlled group,which learns words in traditional ways.Questionnaire,pre-vocabulary test,post-vocabulary test and interview are included.The results illustrate that the experimental group’s English is improved and score is higher than that of the controlled group’s English.In post-vocabulary test,there is a significant difference between the experimental group and the controlled group in C-E and E-C,which shows that the experimental group learning with Baicizhan makes better progress than the controlled group learning with traditional teaching methods.And there is no meaningful change in Sentence Dictation and Blank Filling in both the experimental group and the controlled group.Consequently,to some extent,Baicizhan is beneficial to senior high school students.Teachers and students should learn vocabulary learning strategies in Baicizhan and improve their teaching and learning efficiency.
