Cooperative learning is a student-centered and group-based teaching strategy,which has been widely used in the field of education in various countries.Since the early 1990 s,cooperative learning has been studied and explored in China,and it has been widely used in classroom teaching.So far,cooperative learning has been in full swing in primary and secondary schools,but the research in secondary vocational schools is still in its infancy,especially in the teaching of English skills competitions in secondary vocational schools.Based on the cooperative learning theory,this study conducted an 18-week cooperative English teaching practice for the English skill contestants in secondary vocational schools.By using the methods of literature research,case study and interview,the author conducts detailed classroom observation and interview on four subjects,and conducts research and analysis.The purpose is to study the specific implementation of the teaching of English skills contest in secondary vocational schools under the background of cooperative learning,and to analyze the impact of cooperative learning on the level of participation,cooperative awareness and anxiety of the contestants in vocational skills contest.Finally,the study concludes that cooperative learning can improve the performance of English skill contestants in secondary vocational schools to a certain extent;cooperative learning can promote the development of the sense of cooperation among the contestants and increase their intimacy,so that they can learn from others’ strong points to offset their weaknesses,and successfully complete their tasks in the competition;cooperative learning can effectively reduce the learning anxiety of competitors,and enhance their psychological quality and their ability to solve problems and innovate.With the help of interpretationism,this study adopts the method of qualitative research.It tries to reveal the multiplicity and the situation of the research questions from the perspective of qualitative observation.This study not only has a positive effect on improving the performance of contestants,but also on developing their good psychological quality.It also provide the references for English education in secondary vocational schools from individual specificity to universality.
