For a long time,English writing is significant for junior high school teaching.Writing is the process of output,so students are required to lay a solid language foundation and improve the ability to apply knowledge.Their English ability can be reflected through writing.According to the New Curriculum Standard of Junior Middle School English,it is proposed to strengthen the teaching of English writing and emphasize the ability of comprehensive use in language.However,there exists a common phenomenon in junior high school students' writing.That is,there are not many lexical or grammatical errors in their writing,and the use of vocabulary and sentence patterns is relatively simple.This is not only related to the current English level of the students,but also avoidance strategies are used intentionally or unintentionally.In English writing,the occurrence of avoidance phenomenon affects the improvement of students' writing level greatly.In order to solve this problem,with the guidance of Krashen monitoring theory,the author tries to discuss from input hypothesis,monitoring hypothesis and affective filtering hypothesis in order to help students reduce the occurrence of avoidance phenomenon and improve their English writing.The research discuss based on the analysis of the phenomenon of avoidance at home and abroad and the guidance of monitoring theory by Krashen.Meanwhile qualitative and quantitative methods are applied in this research.The subjects are selected from two classes of Junior 2 students from one middle school in Donggang.The total number of students is 80 and it lasts for three months.Before the experiment,the students in both classes wrote a composition of not less than 70 words as required.Then two teachers gave scores.The author carries on the writing teaching method reform to the experimental class,and carries on the traditional writing teaching to the controlled class.After three months,the author made a statistical analysis of the scores of the two classes by using SPSS23.0.It explored whether there was a significant difference in the scores of the two classes.At the same time,the following research issues are studied and analyzed through text analysis,questionnaire survey and personal interview:The main contents are as follows:What are the specific aspects of avoidance phenomenon in English writing among students in the second year of junior high school?What are the reasons for the avoidance phenomenon based on monitoring theory?How do teaching methods affect students' English writings based on the monitoring theory?In this research,three main findings are as following:(1)Through the analysis of compositions and questionnaires,there are three types of avoidance phenomenon in the second year of junior high school: vocabulary avoidance,grammar avoidance and discourse avoidance which cover vocabulary selection,sentencepatterns,tenses,discourse cohesion and so on.(2)According to the results of questionnaire survey and interview,based on the monitoring theory,there are some reasons of avoidance phenomenon according to objective and subjective reasons,such as incomprehensible input,improper monitoring and excessive emotional anxiety.(3)The teaching methods with the guidance of monitoring theory can reduce the occurrence of avoidance effectively.It can also improve students' writing level.Specifically,the first is to make full use of the time in class to improve the efficiency of learning.The second is to increase students' comprehensible input to ensure the quantity and quality of language input.The third is to make moderate monitoring to maintain a good state of mind for the existence of avoidance phenomenon.Finally,pay more attention to students' emotional factors and construct a harmonious and relaxing classroom atmosphere.This study is of great significance to the teaching of English writing in junior high school.Teachers should help students solve the problems caused by avoidance in English writing so that students can improve their level of English writing.Finally,this thesis points out the limitations of the study,and puts forward some suggestions for the future research.
