A Practice Report On Translation Of Complex Sentences

More than ten years have passed since the 2008 U.S.Financial Crisis,but the global impact of the crisis is far-reaching.This long road to recovery has given birth to crises such as anti-globalization,populism,trade protectionism and geopolitical issues.Under the background of globalization,no country can do its own thing.The understanding of the factors and impacts of the Financial Crisis in 2008 is conducive to China's response to the subsequent impact of the global economic recession.Therefore,this translation practice report chooses Firefighting : Financial Crisis and Its Lessons written by Ben S.Bernanke,Timothy F.Geithner and Henry M.Paulson as the translation text in the translation practice.And authors of the translation text are all experts in the financial field in the United States.There are a lot of complex sentences with complicated sentence structure in the source text.In the process of translation,if the original sentence structure of complex sentence is followed in the practice,it will be against the Chinese content expression habit of emphasizing parataxis and the internal logic of progressive layers.And it will cause the phenomenon of miscellaneous sentence structure and asymmetric information.This paper aims at the problem of complex sentences in translation,thus the author needs to break its original structure and follows the Chinese thinking logic and writing habits.Therefore,the author chooses structure reorganization of complex sentences as the research subject of this translation practice.And the author divides the problem of complex sentences into three categories in the translation practice,which are the miscellaneous modifying elements,the redundancy of complex sentence structure and the hidden separation structure.The miscellaneous modifying elements include various participle phrases,prepositional phrases and adverbial elements.The redundancy of complex sentence structure includes various participle phrases,prepositional phrases and adverbial elements.The hidden separation structure includes indistinguishable structural separation,insertional separation and modifying separation.This paper uses the concept of Four Step translation process by Eugene Nida,so as to make it conform to the reading habits of the target readers.Based on the above-mentioned translation problems and the existing translation theories,the author puts forward solution to translation of complex sentences.The separation translation method,conversion translation method and integration translation method are used to solve the problem of miscellaneous modifying elements.The splitting-off translation method,inversion translation method and blending translation method are adopted to solve the problem of redundant complex sentence structure.The restoration translation method,fronting translation method and order-changing translation method are used to solve the problem of hidden separation structure.The author focuses on the application of structure reorganization between English and Chinese complex sentences.At last,the author hopes that these translation methods can provide some reference for relevant translation practice.
