The poetry culture of Tang dynasty is one of the critical components of Chinese classical poetry. The concise and intuitionistic phrases enrich the artistic connotations and spiritual worlds of poetry literature, which manifests important communication significance in translation of Chinese poems.Since the term “cultural images” was proposed by Xie Tianzhen of the book Medio Translatology in 1999,the study on the cultural images translation has been widely concerned by scholars from all over the world. And the classical poems in Tang dynasty contain abundant and distinctive cultural images. However, images with profound cultural implications may make poems translation more complicated and arduous. In addition, owing to cultural differences and lack of relevant background knowledge,it is formidable for the translators to translate Chinese poems. Therefore, confronted with the phenomena, the author has made an attempt to explore relevant solutions on the basis of cognitive science. In accordance with cognitive perspective, translation is not a transformation of language forms simply, but a processing of cognition to achieve the meanings of source language by the translators. Moreover, frame,as a kind of system of concept,is used to connect the knowledge structures of multiple cognitive domains involved in some linguistic form. The theory lays stress on the importance of human understanding in the use of language.Accordingly, the translators are required to look for a language expression that may trigger the same or similar cognitive framework of the original to tackle translation difficulties caused by cultural differences. The research discusses the cultural images translation of Chinese classical poetry from the perspective of the frame theory in cognitive linguistics. It is realized that the translators aim at achieving equivalent knowledge systems between source text and target text, and making the target readers obtain the closest reading feelings as the source readers do by means of understanding the original poems, recognizing the authors' intentions and predicting the target readers' expectations.More importantly, the paper treats the poem Chang Hen Ge translated by Giles,Fletcher,Xu Yuanzhong and Yang Hsien-yi as a research object. After analysis of the four English versions of cultural images, there are such translation strategies as transformation of frame equivalence, modification and replacement of frame components, adjustment of frame hierarchy and change of frame relationship guided by the frame theory, which may provide a certain rational interpretation in the translation of cultural images from cognitive perspective.
