The process of translation is inseparable from the translator's psychological activities. In recent years, some scholars have illustrated and studied the process of translation by virtue of the research results of cognitive psychology. This report also makes a systematic analysis of the process of the translator's translation of the English novel I'm not Amy,and the translator attempts to accurately convey the content and meaning of the source text, and satisfy the reading habits of Chinese readers. The author believes that a qualified translation depends on the translator's understanding of source text and the quality of the representation of mental reality formed by source text. This report consists five parts: a brief description of the translation project,an explanation of the process of translation,an introduction of the theoretical framework, the case study and conclusion. This report takes the mental mechanism of translation proposed by Professor Yan Linhai as its theoretical framework, and makes a detailed analysis of propositions in the cognitive mechanism of understanding and the cognitive mechanism of expression in translating. The cognitive mechanism of understanding includes:(1)dividing by proposition,(2)chaining and structuring propositions,(3)making the proposition into clauses. The cognitive mechanism of expression includes:(4)clauses translation,(5)integrating the clauses,(6)polishing translation.Based upon the combination of theory and practice, the report aims to prove the practicability and feasibility of proposition as translation unit.
