Chinese female writers are the largest and most influential group of writers,among the subjects of Chinese American literature,who have grown up in the dual cultural environment of China and the United States have added many classic chapters to Chinese American literature.It has formed the development history of Chinese American female literature itself,which can be roughly divided into three stages,respectively:the start-up period from the mid-19 th century to the mid-20 th century,the development period from the mid-20 th century to the 1980 s,and the boom period after the 1990 s.In this process,unique and classic creative themes such as "mother-daughter relationship","father-son relationship",and "Chinatown" appeared,which covered the immigration experience and survival dilemma of the Chinese American community to varying degrees,which is a collision between eastern and western culture.The product of the intersection is unique and stable.Among them,through the writing of the theme of mother-daughter relationships,female writers are constantly thinking about the living conditions of Chinese women in families,communities and mainstream society at different times.The Chinese tradition represented by the stories and language of the Chinese mothers is not only the source of their crisis,but also the inspiration for themselves.Therefore,for Chinese female writers,the relationship between female identity,birth of a Chinese family,and mainstream American society is a very important area of research and debate.In the past,studies on the subject of mother-daughter relations have often focused on independent or comparative analysis of one or more novels on the subject of motherdaughter relations.Discuss based on theories of feminism,post-colonialism,and ethnic identity,paying attention to the cultural differences represented by the mother-daughter conflict,the masculinity in the female text,and Orientalism or anti-Orientalism in the postcolonial perspective and so on.This thesis will draw useful experience from previous research,focus on the development period and prosperity period in the development of Chinese American female literature,combine the corresponding era background,and use the method of careful reading.The Woman Warrior of Maxine Hong Kingston and The Joy Luck Club of Amy Tan and Shanghai Girls of Lisa See are the basic texts of the discussion,continue to explore the endless value in the theme of mother-daughter relations.The full text is divided into three parts: introduction,the main body of the thesis and conclusion.The introduction mainly combs the three important stages of the development of Chinese American female literature,explains the corresponding representative writers and works,summarizes the characteristics of different periods,and points out the status and significance of the theme of mother-daughter relations in Chinese American female literature.This thesis reviews the research status of mother-daughter relations in Chinese American female literature at home and abroad,and indicates the research perspective and method of this thesis;The next chapter 1 of the main body focuses on reviewing and summarizing the images of mothers and daughters represented by "woman warriors","Chinese mothers" and "American daughters" and "Shanghai beauties" since the American Civil Rights Movement.Reflects the main problems faced by Chinese women in different historical periods;Chapter 2 draws on the connotation of "the male other" in the past research on mother-daughter relationships,restores the Chinese immigrant father to a Chinese family.Thinking about how the role of the father as a part of the complete family affects Chinese mothers and daughters,and what functions and meanings they have in different periods;Chapter 3 focuses on the staged reflection of Chinese female self-awareness,and explores from the outside to the inside how female writers interpret themselves in the process of tracing back to matriarchal history and create a definition for themselves.
