IELTS writing,as an important part of English learning, has always attracted the attention of education experts and English teachers. However, the traditional teacher-centered teaching method is currently used in Chinese universities to teach IELTS English writing. This teaching method ignores the students' learning motivation and the cultivation of learning autonomy. This problem can be solved because the combination of English education and advanced technology has become a teaching trend. This study attempts to adopt action research to explore the effect of mobile APP-assisted IELTS writing teaching on college students' IELTS writing learning, and to solve practical problems in traditional teacher-centered IELTS writing teaching. This study attempts to address the following three research questions:1: What impact do mobile APPs have on students' IELTS writing motivation in Cycles 1 and 2?2: What impact do mobile APPs have on students' IELTS writing learner autonomy in Cycles 1 and 2?3: To what extent can students' IELTS writing proficiency be improved in the use of mobile APPs in Cycles 1 and 2?This action research study was conducted at a university in Northeast China. The 2018-2019 academic year was selected for a total of 18 weeks. One hundred and twenty five students from two parallel classes were selected for the study.Research methods include questionnaires, interviews, tests, research journals, student learning diaries, and classroom observations. All collected data were analyzed with the help of SPSS 19.0 system using qualitative and quantitative analysis methods. The results indicate that the IELTS writing motivation and autonomous learning ability of the students in the two experimental groups are significantly enhanced, and the IELTS writing proficiency of the two groups are significantly different. Therefore,it is feasible to use mobile APP to assist IELTS writing teaching and learning. Finally, the results obtained in this research and the problems existing in the research process are summarized and reflected, and suggestions are made, hoping to have implications for student learning, teacher teaching and future research.
