This is an English-Chinese translation report, whose subjects in its case analysis are excerpted from chapters 34 and 35 of the Oxford Handbook of Food,Politics and Society by Ronald J.Herring in 2015,who is an American academic. It focuses on analyzing typical difficulties encountered in the translation and discussing the correspondent translation strategies as well as techniques. In reviewing the translation task,it describes in detail the stage of preparations before translation, that of translating and that of post-translation respectively and what the author has done at each stage.Meanwhile,Catford's linguistic shifts is also incorporated in it as a guiding theory. In chapters of difficulties in the translation and case analysis, combined with narrowly the translation strategies and techniques,it mainly analyzes the redundancy and non-equivalence from the aspect of text and discusses the correspondent translation strategies by virtue of archetypal cases: refinement and omission are adopted in regards of over-redundancy while amplification,in case of under-redundancy.In terms of in-correspondence,translation strategies are flexibly and comprehensively employed to ensure natural equivalence, such as semantic extension and variation, affirmative and negative expressions, and Catford's linguistic shifts. What's more, critical thinking also plays a very important part in comprehending the whole original text,by which are made grammatical analysis, contextual analysis, semantic analysis, analysis of text type, and so on.Besides, creative rewriting enjoys the same weight as the critical thinking does in the translating.Besides,a translator's accomplishments as well as their importance for translation are also entailed in it.A conclusion is drawn from the description of the translation task and the case analysis as follow:1.Full preparations is essentially significant for ensuring the process and the quality of translation.2.With the reader-awareness,a translator should comprehend the original texts by leveraging the related resources and translate them by accurate strategies to achieve the unique style, which is conducive for him to understanding comprehensively and translating better.
