Many foreign missionaries in modern times(1840-1919)wrote a lot of travelogue materials when visiting China, which helps us to understand China's economy, society and culture at that time. This report is written on the basis of my translation project “Travelogues by James Legge”,which are from the manuscripts of James Legge,a British missionary, detailedly introducing China' s natural scenes, local customs and practices. Therefore,it is of great significance to translate such valuable travelogue materials.Travelogues are characterized by rich content, beautiful words and inclusive topics.By translating the travelogues, the translator summarizes the language features and then analyzes specific translation strategies.Firstly, the translator should choose more specific vocabularies according to cultural and historical background,so as to present the historical background better.Secondly, when the expression of the original text deviates from the stylistic norms, the translator can choose appropriate language conversion according to the semantic context of the original text to accurately present the author' s thinking process.Thirdly, the translator should retain the original registers, styles and content. On the basis of the above three viewpoints, this report analyzes the key points and difficulties encountered in the translation process from four aspects: vocabulary, sentence style and register. This report aims at providing credible academic help for the researches on the translation of missionaries' travelogues and James Legge,in addition to aim at improving translator' s skills through the translation experience.
