Fan Chengda was an important politician and writer in the Southern Song Dynasty.Which also was one of the four famous scholars in the southern Song Dynasty.In recent years,the Scholars has made rich achievements in all aspects of him.Most of the previous studies focused on Fan Chengda's life and friends,poetry research,calligraphy art and so on,especially his pastoral poetry and Shi Jin poetry.But rarely reference to Buddhism.So this article will try to make a whole research between the Fan Chengda and Buddhism.The study focuses on all of Fan Chengda's extant poems,notes and essays,combining with the background of the Buddhism,the famous mountain temples he visited and the people he made friends with.Then by analyzing the terms and ideas of Buddhism in his works and discussing the influence of Buddhism on his poetic style,we can understand the deep meaning of the Buddhist factors in Fan Chengda's thought.The full text mainly divides into four chapters.The First Chapter Investigates Fan Chengda's social intercourse with the monks in different periods of his life,starting from his three different life experiences of not being an official,going out to be an official,and retiring to the countryside,focusing on his association with several monks such as Huiju and Xianlao,it further illustrates Fan Chengda's fondness for Buddhism.In the second chapter,discusses the use of Buddhist images in Fan Chengda's works and his feelings towards these special images,and analyzes the influence of some Buddhist traditions reflected in his poems on social life,such as praying for rain,Buddhist festivals and the like.The third chapter discusses the different Buddhist classics in his works,such as Vimalakirti Sutra,Shurangama Sutra and fa Hua Sutra,and expounds the influence of these sutras on his literary creation and his attitude towards life.The Fourth Chapter focuses on a large number of Zen content in Fan Chengda's works,and studies the influence of Zen Koan quotations on the language and content of some of his poems,analysis of his works on "Zen into poetry" and "Zen on poetry" articles.
