According to < Junior High School English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education 2011> the overall goal of the English curriculum at compulsory education period is to develop students' elementary comprehensive language skills.English reading is an important part of English teaching in junior high school no matter from the perspective of instrumentality or the perspective of humanity of English curriculum.However,there are many deficiencies in the traditional “teacher-centered” English classroom teaching of junior high school,many students show little interest in English reading,they seldom get the importance of the study of English reading and teachers' teaching methods are single and tedious.As a result,the overall efficiency of English teaching is not high.Therefore,it is urgent to seek new development and breakthrough in the teaching methods of English reading in current junior high school.With the development of society and the progress of science and technology,Blended Learning,which complements the advantages of traditional classroom teaching and online learning,emerges as the times require.The process of implementation of Blended Learning is the process of combining the advantages of online teaching with traditional teaching.In the process of Blended Learning,the leading role of students in the learning process can be fully realized.New changes will take place in both teachers' teaching methods and students' learning methods.The author of the thesis has learned a large number of researches about Blended Learning and junior high school English teaching at home and abroad.In the guidance of the Theory of Constructivism and Multiple Intelligence Theory,the author aims to explore the application of Blended Learning in the design and application of English reading in junior middle school.In this thesis,a class of Grade Seven in a junior high school of Hefei was selected as the experimental class,and the English reading teaching which was designed basing on Blended Learning was implemented.Another class was selected as the control class,and the traditional English reading teaching method was adopted.The author did this research with methods of the questionnaire,the interview,tests and then used EXCEL and SPSS21.0 statistical software to analyze the data which had been collected during the experiment.It is found that students can really participate in every step of the whole process of English reading teaching,their initiative in learning English have been significantly improved;real-time feedback data from off-line classroom teaching and online homework shows students' interest and self-confidence in English reading has been improved;and their reading comprehension ability and performance have been improved either.This research shows that the teaching design and application which are based on Blended Learning can overcome the deficiencies of the traditional English reading teaching in junior high school and let students' subject position run through the whole process of English reading teaching as to improving the comprehensive learning effect.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to introduce the concept of Blended Learning into junior high school English reading teaching.
