An Analysis On Cao Yu's Playwriting After 1949

Cao Yu's dramatic works are the symbol of the maturity of Chinese modern drama literature.Under the background of the new era after the founding of the people's Republic of China,this paper focuses on Cao Yu's three dramatic works “Bright Sky”,“Dark Sword” and “Wang Zhaojun”.In the new social and cultural environment,Cao Yu continues the realistic writing style and creates dramatic works that reflect the specific times and reflect the social features of New China.With the ideological transformation of intellectuals in the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China as the background,"clear Sky" vividly reflects that under the new national policy,intellectuals overcome difficulties,actively transform themselves,and become staunch supporters and builders of the socialist cause.The two historical plays "Dark Sword" and "Wang Zhaojun" take history as a mirror,based on reality,allude to contemporary society with historical stories,endow historical stories with profound contemporary significance,enrich the content of dramatic works,and have profound value of the times.Starting from the social and cultural background after the founding of the people's Republic of China,this paper is based on the three dramatic works created by Cao Yu after the founding of the people's Republic of China.Interpreting of the text of dramatic works,exploring the theme of drama creation,analyzing the characters in drama works,and exploring the aesthetic style of drama,this paper analyzes the value and limitation of Cao Yu's drama creation after the founding of New China,and affirms Cao Yu's contribution to Chinese drama.Summed up the reasons for the shortcomings of dramatic works.
