A Practical Report On C-E Translation Of Electronic Communication Text From The Perspective Of Relevance Theory

With the continuous development of China's economy,science and technology,electronic communication technology has also developed rapidly and been applied to all fields of people's life and production.Related instrument and equipment instructions also play an important role in the actual production and life.In order to avoid equipment damage and ensure personal safety,these instructions provide users with the equipment information,guide them to operate,use and maintain the equipment correctly.Therefore,the quality of equipment manual translation needs high standard and the importance of equipment manual translation research is self-evident.Relevance theory provides the support for analyzing the characteristics of electronic communication text and summarizing translation strategies.It is an interpretive theory of language communication that emerged in the field of philosophy of language in the 1980s.According to Relevance theory,in the process of scientific and technological translation,the main task of the translators is to find out the connection between the contextual assumptions of different scientific.and technical texts,accurately understand the source text,and flexibly grasp the usage habits of the two languages to translate it into the target language.The ultimate goal of translation is to achieve the optimal relevance between the original text,the target text and the target language readers,so that the target readers can better understand the translation.Using this theory,this article discusses the C-E translation for Fiber Optical Current Transformer Instructions,analyzes the characteristics of electronic communication text in the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,which are embodied in wide usage of terminology,abbreviations,impersonal sentences,passive sentences,complex professional knowledge with strong logicality and cohesive discourse and so on.In order to achieve the optimal relevance between the translator and the target language readers,the corresponding translation strategies and methods are proposed.In view of the above characteristics,under the guidance of Relevance theory,it mainly includes:translation of terminology,translation of abbreviations,translation of imperative sentences,active to passive,coherence,cohesion,adjustment and reorganization and so on.In this practice report,the relevant translation strategies and methods are summarized by studying the Relevance theory.This is a kind of supplement and perfection to electronic communication text translation,and it is hoped to provide certain reference and enlightenment to electronic communication professional translators and researchers.
