Puccini, one of the most distinguished Italian composers and musicians, also a representative who pushed the late romantic music to the top, opened a new era of Italian opera under the influence of the verismo opera in the 19 th and 20 th century, which made him irreplaceable in the history of western opera music.Devoted his whole life to opera,Puccini created 12 masterpieces that were strongly dramatic with great focus on figures.Puccini was good at shaping images of weak exotic oriental ladies, such as cho-cho-san in Madame Butterfly and Liu in Turandot. The image of Liu,who were the last woman depicted by Puccini during his lifetime, was strongly dramatic and extremely representative.Combining the theories with practical experiences, this essay chooses Liu as the study subject to learn characters and musical expression. This essay consists of three chapters. The first chapter introduces the composer, background and scenario of the opera. The second chapter firstly analyzes how the drama is expressed in the music, and then specifically analyzes the dramatic characters of Liu from the perspective of music. The third chapter, combined with the author's own experiences, reshapes Liu from the perspectives of singing and performance.
