Kenzo Hayashi is undoubtedly a giant among the modern researchers in the field of musicology,for his research on ancient Chinese musical notation,Musical Instruments and musical rules.In the field of Ancient notation study,especially the study of Dunhuang pipa notation had a profound impact on the later studies in China.Although he was a character half a century ago,the results of his research have rarely been shaken,and posterity are based on his results for in-depth investigation.Kenzo Hayashi devoted himself to the study of Oriental music throughout his life.He wrote a lot of books,most of which were translated into Chinese in the middle and late 20 th century,which shocked the whole Chinese musical circle and provided the foundation and inspiration for Chinese scholars.As one of the selected books on Oriental music,“Ancient court music of Japan––Explications of Ancient Tabulatures” was edited by Tokyo ongaku Gakkai(the society for research in Asiatic music)published by Ongaku no tomo sha corp and in 1969.Ancient court music of Japan––Explications of Ancient Tabulatures contains 14 papers written by Kenzo Hayashi,as well as 1 commentary of a collection of essays jointly written by Satoaki Gamo and Mitsuko Gamo,covering the aspects of music notation,musical Instruments and musical rules.Music score is also divided into instrument score,vocal music score,dance score.They are: Pipa tabulature,Wuxian tabulature,flute tabulature,saibara tabulature,Dunhuang dance tabulature,ect.In terms of musical Instruments,this paper mainly analyzes and discusses the structure and shape of Pipa and Sheng and the performing method.In the aspect of music law,it mainly studies the Sheng law and the tuning method of Pipa.This paper is composed of introduction,body and conclusion,and the body is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the life of Kenzo Hayashi,the original author of the translated works,and makes a subjective and objective comment on the original author,combining with the author's personal experience of visiting part of the relic collection of Kenzo Hayashi in Kansai university library,and the academic influence of Kenzo Hayashi.It also reviews his works and translations.The second chapter mainly focuses on the content of the translated book " Ancient court music of Japan––Explications of Ancient Tabulatures ",and gives a comprehensive overview of the main research results of each long paper.And combined with papers,analysis of Kenzo Hayashi 's research methods and characteristics.The third chapter focuses on the difficulties encountered by the author in the process of reading or translating this book.Through the collection of information from various resource,as well as personal research and investigation,making some supplementary explanations of this book.The fourth chapter first describes the author's translation process and translation methods,then reveals the current status of domestic research status about this book,and finally comprehensively expounds the translation value and application prospect of this book.About the book “Ancient court music of Japan––Explications of Ancient Tabulatures”,so far,there have been two papers translated into Chinese,in addition to the other 12 papers are not translated into Chinese,there is no systematic translation.As a comprehensive work on the study of Kenzo Hayashi's ancient music tabulature,this book not only covers the interpretation results of important ancient music tabulature,but also reflects the research methods of Kenzo Hayashi.The author chose to translate this book,hoping that Kenzo Hayashi's research results will be known,and Chinese scholars can get the research reference and reference.
