With the implementation of the new curriculum reform,the core competencies have become the focus of the most teachers.Reading teaching is an important part of English teaching,which has an important influence on the development of students' core competencies.However,at present,most high school English reading teaching still adopts the traditional teaching model,that is to say,students passively accept language points.How to use effective teaching strategies in practical reading teaching to promote the development of students' core competencies is the focus and difficulty of English reading teaching at present.Scaffolding instruction is a kind of teaching model based on the theory of zone of proximal development and constructivism,which is student-oriented and aims at cultivating students' ability of problem-solving,independent learning and creative thinking.This teaching model is an effective way to improve the efficiency of reading teaching by setting up scaffolds,entering situation,independent exploration,cooperative learning and effective evaluation.This study is based on the teaching concept of core competencies and uses the action research to apply scaffolding instruction to reading teaching.It is helpful to improve the reading teaching effect by reflecting on and optimizing the reading teaching process,and it is available to develop high school English reading teaching program and teaching resources and cultivate students' English core competencies.The research questions of this study are as follows: 1.Is it possible and feasible to combine core competencies with scaffolding instruction? 2.How to design and apply scaffolding instruction in senior high school English reading teaching? 3.What is the effect of scaffolding instruction in senior high school English reading teaching?Therefore,this research takes the senior two students in Anshan as the research object to implement a 12-week action research.The teaching process is modified according to the data collection of the questionnaires,reading tests,interview and teaching journal,and finally scaffolding instruction from the perspective of core competencies in English reading teaching is constructed.Through two phases of the action research,it is found that the scaffolding instruction from the perspective of core competencies has improved students' reading ability and reading performances and has promoted the development of students' English core competencies.
