This translation report is based on the E-C translation of 24 Hours in Ancient Egypt(Chapter 1-Chapter 8).It depicts the daily life of 24 ancient Egyptians from different walks of life, interspersed with the introduction of the historical and cultural information about Egypt. Moreover, the source language is characterized by the vivid language, abstract expressions as well as cultural words. Thus, translating this book can help people know more about the ways of production and living in ancient Egypt and further their understanding about Egyptian culture and history. This translation report mainly discusses how to translate the implied information in vocabulary, discourse and context. In the translation of this book, the author found that due to the differences in thinking and language structure,it’s necessary to ensure the implied meaning can be clearly reproduced in the target language, like abstract words, implied logic and cultural background information. In order to ensure the readers can get the similar feeling as the native readers do,the author adopted various translation methods and skills including semantic extension, amplification and paraphrase in an effort to reproduce the meaning between the lines in the target language, ensuring lexical equivalence and enhancing the readability and vividness of the target language.Through this translation practice and report writing, the author has a better understanding of the translation of the historical stories. The author hopes that the translation methods analyzed and summarized in this report can provide a certain reference to the relevant translation practice.
