Education is the foundation of a country.Nowadays, higher education system in China is constantly seeking for innovation and improvement. With the impact of globalization, education systems and reform strategies of other countries could provide new ideas and inspiration for the further enhancement of China's higher education. In this translation project, the source material was selected from the official website of Grattan Institute,an Australian public policy think tank, entitled Mapping Australian Higher Education 2018,which systematically introduced the current situation of higher education in Australia. As an informative text, the source material is formal and objective, aiming at delivering information to target readers. To properly solve the problems encountered during the translation project especially the translation of long and complicated sentences,Catford's Translation Shifts theory was adopted.Under the guidance of Catford's Translation Shifts theory, the author adjusted words sequences, part of speech, language levels and ranks in order to achieve a more accurate and expressive translation and avoid “translationese”.Through grammar and syntactic structure analyses, the application of level shifts and category shifts was exemplified in detail, with the differences between English and Chinese deeply explored. In the E-C translation process,in order to obtain the translation equivalence without losing readability,Translation Shifts were adopted flexibly instead of word-forword translation, through strategies such as amplification and omission, adjustments in modifiers positions, shifts of active and passive voices, changes of part-of-speech and ranks. The gains and limitations of the translation project are also summarized with suggestions and expectations for future research put forward.
