| Chen Xue,a Mesozoic female novelist in Taiwan, has shown her close attention to marginal groups since her creation, from early lesbians and bisexuals to recent mentally ill patients and people from the bottom of society.Continuous breakthroughs and changes, each of her novels still talks about marginal people. This is closely related to the marginal growth experience of writers and the life experience of samesex marriage. The unusual growth experience and identity prompted her to continue writing to speak for the marginal characters. From the initial simple venting, nakedly showing the passions and living conditions of marginal people,to analyzing the inner margins of people, exploring their psychology, and showing margins.People are not special people, and rebuild the subjectivity of marginal people. From the novel creation process of more than 20 years from 1995 to 2019,Chen Xue insisted on conveying the subjective consciousness of depression, presenting the course of selfidentity, reflection, and reconstruction of the marginal through the writing of texts. At the same time, she also thought about the life experience and survival situation of self-identity in her creation, trying to break free from the layers of tight cages that she had been suppressing in the past, and rebuild herself. This article consists of four chapters. It mainly discusses the process of selfidentification、reflection and reconstruction of marginal people in Chen Xue’s novels from the following aspects: Chapter One firstly summarizes Chen Xue’s personal marginal experience and her creative ideas. The images of the marginal people in the works in question are briefly classified;the second chapter is based on Chen Xue’s early novels,“Evil Girl” and “Butterfly”,and analyzes the writing of the works through the mysterious nightmare fantasy and light animal images. To show the hidden sexual psychology of lesbians and the multiple flowing passions, and to complete self-identity identification in the pursuit of self and release of self;the third chapter focuses on Chen Xue’s autobiographical trilogy “Children on the Bridge”,“Chen Spring” and “The Enchanter”.The works of this period show Chen Xue’s highly reflective nature. After facing the growth experience and emotional trauma, marginal individuals began to think about the relationship between self, family, and society, and searched for themselves in deep examination.Chapter four mainly analyzes Chen Xue’s recent two novels “The Lovers in the Maze” and “The Skyscraper”.The torture of physical disease, the change of material and spiritual space, presents the different life patterns of the marginal people, who not only feel the love and disease, but also explored the themes of human life and death, emotion, writing, belief and so on,and finally realize the re-shaping of themselves. With the progress and development of the times, the living conditions and spiritual core of marginal people have received more and more attention. This article combines the unique life experience of Chen Xue to sort out the development and changes of marginal characters in her novels.I write this article to help readers better understand Chen Xue and her work, and also try to help people better understand and accept this group of people by showing the multiple faces of marginal people. |
