The textbook plays a key role in the actual teaching process.It is an important carrier of teaching and a bridge between teachers and students in the classroom.However,in our teaching research,we usually focus on teachers' teaching and students' learning,and ignore the importance of textbooks and textbook analysis.New Senior English for China(NSEC)has been widely recognized and used since it was published.Meanwhile,language teaching researchers try to analyze it from the perspectives of communicative teaching theory,activity theory and so on.However,it is rare to analyze textbooks and reveal the ecological characteristics of textbooks from the perspective of ecollinguistics.Based on the theory of ecolinguistics,this study analyzes the ecological characteristics of NSEC through the combination of qualitative research and quantitative research to explore the ecological characteristics of NSEC and the reasons for its formation.By means of questionnaire and interview,the evaluation of the ecological characteristics of NSEC by teachers and students was understood.Through the analysis and research,the author tries to improve the rationality of high school English textbook compilation,provide a new perspective for teachers to use textbooks in teaching,and lay a foundation for the cultivation of “whole-person” with ecological awareness.In order to achieve the above research objectives,the following three research questions are set in this study:(1)what are the ecological characteristics of NSEC from the perspective of ecolinguistics?(2)What are the reasons for the ecological characteristics of NSEC?(3)How do teachers and students evaluate the ecological characteristics of NSEC?The research results show that:(1)NSEC has demonstrated the integrity and diversity of ecolinguistics in the overall textbooks including language knowledge,language skills,cultural awareness,and learning strategies.This is in line with the people-oriented educational philosophy of educational ecology and the goal of developing holistic education;(2)The requirements of the curriculum standards and the increasingly serious ecological problems under the rapid development of society require students to have “ecological awareness”,which makes the textbooks have ecological characteristics;(3)Teachers and students have given positive evaluations to most of the designs in the textbooks,thinking that the textbooks contain ecological features and that such ecological design is necessary.According to the results of the study,this thesis draws some meaningful implications,and puts forward some suggestions on the compilation of senior high school English textbooks,teachers' teaching,and students' learning.This study not only enriches the combination of ecolinguistics with teaching and textbook research,but also opens up new ideas for the development of ecolinguistics in the field of teaching.
