Gustav Mahler,the famous Austrian composer and conductor,created many musical works in his life.His music is full of social irony and doubt,and he questions and thinks about life and death.This paper starts with the fifth movement of Mahler's second symphony,to understand Mahler's life,and analyzes the chorus in the symphony.To better appreciate a piece of music,it is necessary to have a deep understanding of the background of it.It is important to understand the emotion of music from the social background of the composer and the creation emotion,and also from the reality of music creation.For a choral song,grasping the choral part plays an important role in presenting the overall emotion of the music.In the performance of choral songs,the conductor's attitude is vital in correctly grasping the singing skills and emotions of the whole song.Starting from the social background of Mahler,this paper analyzes the background of Mahler's second symphony and the historical significance of music creation.To grasp the emotion of the whole music,mastering the chorus in the fifth movement of Mahler's second symphony is vital.Through the overall emotion of the music,understanding the music style and connotation of the chorus and the way of conducting,in order to have a better performance in the chorus.This paper will mainly study the following aspects:Chapter one is to understand the composer,and analyze the background of his social era,and also analyze Mahler's social status.The background and historical significance of Mahler's second symphony are focused.Chapter two is the key part of this research——the music style and connotation of the fifth movement of Mahler's second symphony.The musical analysis method is used to analyze the form and melody of the work.To understand the basic requirements for human voice in the chorus:vocal singing techniques and training skills,and the timbre characteristics of each part.This thesis also studies the relationship between the chorus lyrics and the music.Chapter three analyzes the conducting methods in the fifth movement of Mahler's second symphony,expounds the research significance of conducting actions,explains the gestures and facial expressions while conducting,and analyzes the interpretation and processing of the conductor on the fifth movement of Mahler's second symphony.
