| Gustav Mahler is an Australian conductor and composer in late Romantic period,but his music works were disputed during the late 19th to the early 20th century.Since the 1960s,the performance and academic research of his music works began to gradually be taken seriously and set off a wave of "Mahler Revival".The feelings of irony,doubt,anxiety,tragedy,as well as the"life and death" and the ultimate questions of human were associated with social and historical context of Fin-de-siecle and the zeitgeist resonates at the end of the century.He was seen as bridge of the core of the traditional and the fashion of the early 20th century.This thesis takes Mahler’s Second Symphony in C minor Resurrection as the research object,At the same time,it’s belongs to the historical musicology discipline(Western music study),it took the music historiography as the basic research method and combined music analysis,aesthetics and so on.The thesis explains the characteristics of his works and reveal the work artistic conception and significance,and to explores Mahler’s view of life-death and philosophical connotation.This thesis is divided into three chapters.First of all,The first chapter discusses what influence have had Schopenhauer and Nietzsche’s philosophy and Christian culture on Mahler and his second symphony;and then exposits the relationship between the two symphony "Titanic" and"resurrection";Thirdly,this thesis analyzes the permeability of Mahler’s lied and symphonies,and the artistic features of the "Wunderhorn symphonies" to discuss Mahler’s special aesthetic temperament and interest for this two genres.Finally,specializing the beginning and ending of the second symphony and Mahler’s symphony concept,so to highlight the importance and particularity of the second symphony.The second chapter explores Mahler’s concept about eternal life and death problems in the second symphony,that mainly through thematic construction and development,the research of polyphonic techniques,the poetry and religious connotation interpretation of the final movement etc.,and then to reveal the conception of implementation.This symphony has five movements,it presents the structure of symmetry as the structure,the tonality layout and the contents:the process from "funeral" to "resurrection",this symmetry’s layout is associated to Mahler’s spiritual of samsara,the whole works has such process of "the funeral,thinking and transition,the resurrection"of’from death to life".Therefore,in the second chapter,the five movements will be considered as three parts for interpretation,the article writing is divided into three.The third chapter summarizes the spirit connotation and historical position of Mahler’s Second Symphony in C minor Resurrection.Firstly,contrasting Mahler with three composers of his period,discussing Wagner’s spirit of "punishment and redemption",Bruckner’s piety and unique religious feelings,Richard Strauss and the resonance of Nietzsche’s "superman",so to highlight the different understanding of Mahler ultimate questions about human beings.Next,analysising Longitudinally of Mahler’s way of symphony,the change of techniques and ideas for ten symphonies,so to highlight the special position of second symphony in Mahler symphony creation course.Finally,this thesis expounds the influence of Mahler’s second symphony. |
