The training of thinking quality is the breakthrough to develop intelligence and cultivate ability.The training of thinking quality is in line with the higher requirements of the present situation for citizens.The English curriculum standards for ordinary senior high schools(2018edition)focuses on cultivating students' abilities to use English to acquire information,process information,analyze and solve problems,especially their thinking ability,and it regards developing students' thinking quality as one of the goals of English teaching in senior high schools.However,the cultivation of students' thinking quality is often neglected in today's English teaching classes in senior high school,and there remains many problems.Vocabulary is an important part of English teaching and is the foundation of language learning.Therefore,in order to understand the effect on the cultivation of students' thinking quality by English vocabulary teaching in high school,this study uses action research,questionnaires,interviews and other research methods,makes two rounds of action plan in the class,to answer the following three questions:(1)Aiming at cultivating students' thinking quality including logicality,creativity and criticism,what specific teaching strategies and methods can be used in English vocabulary teaching in the senior high school?(2)What is the practical effect of these teaching strategies and methods on cultivating students' thinking quality?(3)What problems are encountered in the process of cultivating thinking quality in vocabulary teaching?How to solve it?Action research will be divided into two rounds.The first round of action research aims to cultivate the logicality and creativity of students' thinking quality,and puts forward corresponding vocabulary teaching strategies,such as vocabulary decomposition,network schema,associative memory and word sense extension.The second round of action research adjusted and improved the first round of research,and on this basis,added the cultivation of students' critical thinking quality,and proposed two vocabulary teaching strategies including constructing context and cultural background.The results of the survey after the action research found that students not only improved their mastery and using of English vocabulary,but also improved their thinking quality significantly.This indicates that the vocabulary teaching strategies and methods adopted in this study are effective in cultivating students' thinking quality,and also provides some suggestions for cultivating students' thinking quality in Englishvocabulary teaching in senior high school.
