Consistency Between Self-reference And Mother-reference In Emotional Perception: Evidence From Behavioral And ERP

As a basic psychological structure,the self has profound motivation and emotional significance.Self-referential processing is the core of the self and the most important cognitive processing of self-other representation in human interaction.It can connect different types of information or even different processing stages,and is the core mechanism of integrating perception,memory and other cognitive processing.However,little research has been conducted on how mother-reference information affects other people's face emotion perception,and whether the effects of mother-reference and self-reference are consistent.In order to explore whether the self-reference and mother-reference in the emotional perception of other people have a consistent influence,this study used different reference(self-reference,mother-reference,other-reference)and emotional valence(negative,neutral,positive)of evaluation in the context of face emotional evaluation task,through the event related potential technology,examined the effects of self-reference,mother-reference,and other-reference on facial emotional perception processing.the faces in the negative context of self-reference and mother-reference were perceived as more negative and the faces in the positive contexts were perceived as more positive and awakened more than others-reference;There was no significant difference in emotional valence and arousal ratings between the self-reference and the mother-reference contexts.The ERP results showed that the faces in the self-reference and mother-reference contexts induced a larger EPN volatility than the other-reference;The difference between the self-reference and mother-reference conditions on the amplitude of EPN and LPP was not significant.The results of this study provide evidence to support the role of self-reference processing in promoting the generalization of face emotion perception,and this promotion and facilitation effect may be extended to maternal referential processing,which extends the self-integration model to some extent.At the same time,the results of this study show that in the emotional perception of other people's faces,the influence of self-reference and mother-reference is consistent,which provides further evidence for the inclusion of the“mother” component in the Chinese self-structure from the perspective of emotional perception processing.
