The Production-oriented Approach is researched and proposed by Chinese Professor Wen Qiufang and her team.It aims at adopting Production-oriented Approach to overcome the "learning-using separation" phenomenon in second language teaching to improve teaching efficiency,which has already had a greater impact on language teaching field.This paper studies the effect of this approach on the productive lexical competence of foreign students of Dungan nationality in an experimental way.This study mainly answers the following two questions:First,is there any effect of the Production-oriented Approach on the output lexical competence of Dungan nationality students?If there is,how does it affect its vocabulary depth and breadth?Second,is there any positive effect of the Production-oriented Approach on teaching Chinese vocabulary to foreigners?The experimental method was adopted in this study.The experimental subjects were 38 international students of Dungan nationality from two classes of Northwest Normal University in 2018.The two classes were divided into a control class(Class 1,N=19)and an experimental class(Class2,N=19)for a three-month teaching experiment.The experimental class adopted the Production-oriented Approach,while the control class adopted the traditional classroom teaching method.Relevant data were collected through tests,questionnaires and interviews,and the Excel and Spss26.0 were used to process and analyze these collected data.This study draws the following conclusions:First,the Production-oriented Approach is effective at improving the output lexical competence of foreign students of Dungan nationality,but the effect has not reached a statistically significant level.In terms of vocabulary breadth,the Production-oriented Approach has a positive impact on lexical complexity and diversity,which is embodied in that the words used in the experimental class are more diverse and the types of words are more abundant,and the phenomena of words confusion and missing are lower than those in the control class.In terms of vocabulary depth,the Production-oriented Approach has an effective way on lexical meaning,which is mainly reflected that the experimental class has a lower lexical meaning error rate than the control class.Second,the Production-oriented Approach has a positive impact on teaching Chinese vocabulary to foreigners.Based on the results of the questionnaire and interview analysis,we find that the Production-oriented Approach has a positive effect on increasing vocabulary and memorizing vocabulary in terms of teaching efficiency;in terms of learning attitude,we find that the Production-oriented Approach is conducive to increasing students' learning interest,which shows that there has been a positive change in students' learning attitudes towards the Chinese vocabulary and learning;in terms of teaching evaluation,students have a positive attitude to the role of the Production-oriented Approach,and their acceptance and satisfaction are relatively high.Through the above research,this article examines the effect of the Production-oriented Approach on the productive lexical competence of foreign students of Dungan nationality.The results of the study show that the Production-oriented Approach is effective at improving the productive lexical competence of foreign students of the Dungan nationality,and has a positive impact on the teaching of Chinese vocabulary to foreigners.It also verifies guidance and reference significance of the Production-oriented Approach in teaching Chinese vocabulary to foreigners.
