Intertextuality was a term coined by French critic Julia Kristeva in the late 1960s.Interpreted and developed by scholars from different academic backgrounds, the intertextuality theory evolved to intertextuality in a narrow sense,a structuralist notion for literary studies. This report adopts intertextuality in the structuralist view as guidance in analyzing and translating intertextuality and summarizes relevant translation methods. This report is conducted based on the Chinese-English translation of Fang Siqi de Chulian Leyuan(translated as Paradise of Fang Siqi's First Love).A Chinese novel by Lin Yihan published in 2017,as a best seller of 2017 and 2018 with rave reviews from critics, this thought-provoking book concentrates on sexual assaults against underage girls and domestic abuse, revealing the evilness in humanity by a graceful style of writing.Among the literary devices in the novel, intertextuality not only represents a characteristic of the author's writing but also plays a crucial role in driving plots and shaping characters.Based on the translation of the excerpt of this Chinese novel with special references to literary citation, allusion, and parody, this report focuses on the intertextuality in the novel and conducts a case analysis from perspectives of citation, allusion, and parody to summarize practical suggestions for translating different forms of intertextuality.Through translation practice and case analysis, this report suggests that for translating citation, literal translation or transliteration is generally used;for translating allusion and parody, free translation is often used, and necessary information needs to be annotated.Allusion is translated freely to convey its content, and the translation of parody,on the basis of a free one, requires the translator to utilize subjectivity for better preserving its mockery or humorous effect.
