This essay focuses on the case study “the Refugee Crisis under the Shadow of COVID-19” and the corresponding disfluencies in consecutive interpreting. An inductive research approach was adopted for analyzing the data in the study.Data was collected through recording and transcribing both the source content and the author’s interpretation of the study “the Refugee Crisis under the Shadow of COVID-19”.Manifestations of disfluencies were then categorized and analyzed with the aim of determining possible causes before discussing strategies for mitigating disfluencies.Disfluencies discussed in this essay include filled pauses, repeats, and restarts. After analysis, the essay concludes that unfamiliar proper nouns,note-taking inadequacies,a lack of stamina, and insufficient B language proficiency are the main contributors to the manifestation of disfluencies.Suggested mitigation strategies include vocal repetition of unfamiliar nouns in multiple contexts prior to the interpretation, the utilization of more familiar symbols during note-taking,increasing the length of practice sessions, and enhancing B language proficiency.
