Interpretation On Creation Of Yue Opera Scripts "Zhuo Wenjun"

Zhuo Wenjun,a script in Yue Opera,tells the story of Zhuo Wenjun,daughter of the richest man in Linqiong in the Western Han dynasty,and her lover Sima Xiangru with good writing in Cifu,a type of classical Chinese writing.They elope together after falling in love in first sight in the Zhuo’s banquet,however then,go their separate ways in the end.The script can be separated into seven chapters,covering the content of the Song of Courtship,Seek Sima at Night,Zhuo Sells Wine,Sima in Love with One Another,Great Money for Cifu,To a Faithless Husband,Poem without Missing and Zhuo’s Letter in Reply.Also adds the original one including Zhuo’s Announce of Breakup,Sima Gives Gold for Breakup,Zhuo Plays Guqin behind Closed Door,Marrying by Contesting Writing and Sima for Contesting.Although coming from the 21 st century,the author cannot help yearning for this story happened in about one thousand years ago.Guo Moruo,a well-known Chinese writer and poet,calls Zhuo “a rebellious woman”,but in the author’s opinion,there is no doubt that Zhuo lives for herself and lives as an ideal person as well.This script poses several questions that when marriage breaks up,whether a woman can voice her dissatisfaction for her marriage and her spouse;whether she is able to run away and live a new and different life.These questions reflects the author’s vision and thinking during the creation.In this script,after knowing the news that Sima has fallen into love with one another,Zhuo hurries to Chang’an,the capital,without hesitate to announce departure with Sima.She plays a song To a Faithless Husband at the spot to the man to pay off the Song of Courtship written by him.Moved and ashamed,Sima gives her fifty kilos of gold,rewarded by Queen Chen for his Chnagmen fu,as break fee to Zhuo in return.Coming back from Chang’an,Zhuo is extremely upset,playing Guqin behind the closed door for five days and nights,and decides to hold a writing contest for her new marriage.Excited by the news,talents from various regions flock into Linqiong one after another.And Sima finds it hard to calm down and also participate in the crowds for it.To interpret and aspire from the script,there are a few aspects covering background of the subject,creation motive,document retrieval,adaptation,research on and practice of the creation,and gain and reflection.In order to illustrate the play’s feasibility and marketability,the paper will analyse several issues including Yue Opera’s characteristics and market value,contemporary marriage and independent women,and differences between the script and the original one.Based on collected historical record and fictional content about Zhuo Wenjun,and the author’s expansion combined with them,characteristics will be explained in clots,characters,themes,etc.For one,breakthrough of closed ending in the play will be revealed along with its inheritance from characters’ modernity and lyrics’ form;for another,deficiencies and the author’s pity will be mentioned in the content of gain and reflection.
