The Evolution Of The Mentality Of Chinese People In Tobacco Poetry In Qing Dynasty

Tobacco has been spread rapidly since it was introduced into China during the Ming Dynasty some 400 years ago(the period of emperor Wanli).The prevalence of smoking also ran through the Qing Dynasty.This article focuses on exploring the tobacco poetry creation of the Qing Dynasty literati in different periods,and analyzes their creative mentality of this kind of literary works,so as to get a glimpse of the characteristics of the mentality evolution of the Qing Dynasty literati in different historical periods.In the first chapter,starting with the hearsay of "the origin of tobacco" among the Chinese people,the route of tobacco introduction into China during the Ming Dynasty some 400 years ago(the period of emperor Wanli)is combed,and then the route of tobacco transmission in China during the Ming and Qing dynasties is summarized and analyzed,and the reasons for the rapid spread of tobacco throughout the country are summarized.The second chapter discusses the reasons why tobacco can still be widely spread under the clear anti-smoking attitude of the rulers from the anti-smoking policy in the early Qing Dynasty,and analyzes the popularity of tobacco among the elites of the upper class in the early Qing Dynasty.It was also when tobacco entered the field of vision of the upper literary intelligentsia that literary creation on tobacco came into being.At the Qing Dynasty,the literary image of tobacco was mostly shaped from the angles of "smoking with tea and liquor","smoke filling the air" and "beauty smoking".In the specific text creation,on account of the stimulations brought by the new themes of poems about things,they supplemented the knowledge of Confucian scholars and paid close attention to beauty and tobacco in the form of poems.The third chapter analyzes the progress of tobacco literature works in the reign of emperor Qianjia starting from the change of the rulers' anti-smoking policy in the reign of emperor Qianlong,and taking the "tobacco responsory poetry" in turn as an example,summarizes the more careful and meticulous artistic techniques of the literati in this period when creating tobacco poems.The fourth chapter,centering on the “ Small Linglong Shan Guan” literary activities of the brothers Ma Yueyan and Ma Yuelu in Yangzhou during the period of Qianlong,specifically analyzes the creation of "tobacco words" represented by Li E,the creation of "tobacco fu" represented by Quan Zuwang,and the interesting expression of "tobacco literature",thus further summarizing the prosperity and diversity of tobacco literary works during the emperor Ganjia period,and further analyzing the mentality of scholars seeking new and different things in the creation of tobacco poetry and the alienation from politics behind.In the fifth chapter,the author analyzes the tobacco poetry creation in the middle and late Qing dynasty,such as chimney poetry,snuff poetry,hookah poetry,tobacco skill poetry and women's own tobacco poetry creation,thus summarizing the diverse expressions of the Qing people's smoking style and tobacco literature creation,and discussing the tendency of the tobacco poetry to be vulgar after emperor Jiaqing.The sixth chapter sorts out the literati and works opposing tobacco planting and smoking from the tobacco poems of Qing Dynasty,sums up and summarizes the reasons and angles of "strengthening the foundation and suppressing the inconsequential matters","endangering the health" and "opposing the prevalent customs" in the voices opposing tobacco,emphasizes the ancient people's cognition on the hazards of tobacco,and puts forward opinions for us to treat tobacco products correctly today.In a word,this article is based on the text of tobacco literature works,through sorting out and analyzing tobacco poems in various periods of Qing dynasty,digging out the literary value of tobacco poems,and discussing the creative mentality of tobacco scholars,so as to make tobacco poems receive due attention.
