A Project Report On The E-C Translation Of Scotnotes About Muriel Spark

Scottish literature,characterized by reflecting Scottish national wisdom,national cultural traditions and natural scenery,enjoys a splendid position in English literature.Most researchers,when studying Scottish literature,have fixed their attention on such writers as Walter Scott,Robert Burns,and Robert Louis Stevenson as well as the works of them.However,there is relatively little research on the famous female writer Muriel Spark and her works,of which the translations of book reviews are even fewer.The author bases this report on the translation of Muriel Spark's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie from Scotnotes,with the aim to provide a reference for Scottish literature researchers and learners,thus promoting the study of Scottish literature,especially about Spark,in China.Muriel Spark's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is a book review of the writer Muriel Spark's novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.According to Peter Newmark's classification of text types,this text falls into the category of the expressive text,for which semantic translation is largely recommended.During the translation of this text,the author analyzed and summarized the major difficulties encountered in this process,including the translation of terms and proper nouns at the lexical level,the translation of long sentences and complex ones and how to translate the style of the original text.Then,translation strategies such as supplying annotations and sentence split and reorganization were put forward.The author hoped that,from this translation practice,some experience and thoughts would be gained,so as to exchange them with other translators,thus better guiding the author's future translation practice.
