The Bible is a classic work of religious literature,of which Song of Songs is a special chapter, with its unique characteristics different from the rest.Centering about love appreciation, abundant images are used to express strong and passionate love between lovers. So far, there have been a great number of studies of the Bible on its translations into Chinese. As the time advances, the research perspective has been expanding, however few of which shed lights on the reconstruction of image aesthetic features, especially in Song of Songs. When translating the love poem, translators have to fully consider how to reconstruct the richness of image aesthetic features in translating Song of Songs.Only in this way can the original aesthetic experience be better conveyed.Based on the theoretical framework of psychological distance, the author attempts to analyze the diachronic changes in the aesthetic features of images in Song of Songs. The author researches the most representative Chinese versions of Songs of Songs in four periods. It shows that translators from different periods have brought different aesthetic psychological distances in their translations. So,the aesthetic effect of psychological distance should be seriously considered as an important factor in translation evaluation. Before the May Fourth Movement, there is an obvious trend of naturalization for the image processing in Song of Songs.Translators chose to approach Chinese culture by minimizing the psychological distance,to make it easier for Chinese readers to go cross culture differences and experience the aesthetic effects carried by images. After the May Fourth Movement of 1919 and the new cultural movement, with the promotion of vernacular, translators adopted the strategy of alienation with appropriate image preservation in translation.By comparing four translations, the author believes that the way to convey image of Song of Songs has undergone the following diachronic changes,i.e.to minimize the psychological distance in the earlier time,to increase the psychological distance,to keep a proper psychological distance. The changes are directly or indirectly influenced by the transition of the social positions of Chinese and Western cultures in the process of translation.
